Why We're (Still) All Here

Really, eighty visitors is more than I expected. When I returned after the Easter weekend and checked the statistics for Phoenix Publishings, I smiled at the leap from the 440 mark to the 520s. Not everyone, though, shared my enthusiasm (though most shared my optimism). Our publicity event had been a shaky one, and when the number of leaflets distributed dropped by a factor of ten it looked set to be even shakier. And so, eighty visitors. I smile at that. But after five minutes dicussion here or there, it began to look a little more depressing. Had it all been worth it? Were people interested in the views of a select few? Were people interested at all? It doesn't take much, though, to remind me that it might just have worked. Little did we know that when we put MoDCaMeRa as one of our Sites of the Month that they would take such pride in it. I've never met Matt, of the webcomic team, and no doubt he'd never heard of any of us when he found us linking to him. But he linked back to us, and left a thankyou note on the tagboard. That was all it needed, really. Phoenix reached a small group of webcomic artists and that, to me, is more uplifting than the eighty visitors who might have read one or two words here or there. And so now I tell myself to sod fame and glory. We're here to spread messages and talk to people. We're here to tie together some of the web's looser ends. And, damnit, we're going to. Thanks MoDCaMeRa. See you next month.
